Funky Lunch Hour with Haven, Kingsmill and Funky Lunch

May 2012

Haven have partnered with leading bread brand, Kingsmill, and award winning entrepreneur Mark Northeast, founder of Funky Lunch. It all started when Mark's young son refused to eat his sandwich and so Mark got creative and quickly turned it into a rocket - hey presto the sandwich was eaten!

Every parent knows how stressful meal times with children can be and most of the time their reluctance to finish their food is down to boredom. Marks idea quickly grew into a business and in 2009 when he received some backing from Dragons Den star Peter Jones in an entrepreneur competition. Since then it's been a non- stop rollercoaster ride having won five awards in the last 13 months. There's a book and a website and educational programmes taking place in schools all over the country.

His latest venture with Haven Family Holidays and Kingsmill means that there will be a Funky Lunch activity taking place on all of their 35 holiday parks throughout the UK. FunStars will be leading the sessions assisted by characters Bradley and Polly. Mark says "All Haven's holiday parks are by the seaside so we thought it would be fun for the kids to make some of the things they see around them. We have created a postcard scene of sandwiches. Kids will have the choice of making a sun, an ice cream, a kite and a boat. It's a great interactive session that will include making a sandwich Funky Lunch style using a variety of fresh ingredients including both white and wholemeal bread and a selection of salad vegetables. The kids will also create some funky music with food and instruments from the kitchen!

Will Ghali, Director of Brands at Allied Bakeries said, "At Kingsmill we hope that by getting children more excited about what they eat, they'll take more of an active interest at home in helping to prepare meals - making mealtimes more enjoyable for the whole family."
